Emergency Planning
What we do
The Emergency Planning Committee helps the town prepare for and respond to emergencies. It works closely with Sevenoaks District Council, Kent County Council, and the emergency services to make sure local knowledge and support are available when needed.
How we work
The Committee usually meets twice a year to review its preparedness and responses to adverse and extreme weather incidents. While it has only a small budget (for things like radio licences), it plays an important role in readiness and coordination. If a real emergency happens, the Committee is authorised to act immediately, without waiting for approval, in cooperation with other councils and the emergency services.
Why it matters
Good preparation can save lives. This committee ensures our community is ready to respond quickly and effectively in a crisis, and that volunteers working under its guidance are covered by insurance.
Who’s involved
The Committee normally has eight councillors and a number of co-opted volunteers who bring valuable skills and local knowledge.
