What content snippets are
Content snippets are reusable blocks of text that can be inserted into agenda items and minute items. They save time on content that recurs across meetings — for example, a standard "Date of Next Meeting" paragraph, a boilerplate resolution, or a standing declaration.
Snippets are council-specific and can optionally be restricted to specific committees.
Where to find them
Go to Council in the left-hand menu, then click Snippets.
Creating a snippet
Click + New Snippet and complete the following fields:
Title — shown in the picker when inserting a snippet. Must be unique within your council. This is internal and not published.
Internal description — an optional note about when to use this snippet. Visible to staff only.
Agenda text — the content to insert into an agenda item's body text field. Leave blank if this snippet is only for minutes.
Minute text — the content to insert into a minute item's discussion field. Leave blank if this snippet is only for agendas.
A snippet must have at least one of Agenda text or Minute text. A snippet with only Agenda text will appear in the agenda item picker but not the minute item picker, and vice versa.
Restrict to meeting types — optionally tick one or more committees to limit where this snippet appears. Leave all unchecked to make the snippet available for every committee.
Click Save.
Using placeholders
Both the Agenda text and Minute text fields support placeholders — tokens that are automatically replaced with the correct values when the snippet is inserted into an item:
| Placeholder | Replaced with |
|---|---|
{{ meeting_date }} |
Date of this meeting |
{{ meeting_time }} |
Time of this meeting |
{{ committee_name }} |
Name of the committee |
{{ venue_name }} |
Venue of this meeting |
{{ next_committee_meeting_date }} |
Date of the next meeting of this committee |
{{ previous_committee_meeting_date }} |
Date of the previous meeting of this committee |
{{ council_legal_name }} |
Legal name of the council |
Placeholders are resolved at the moment of insertion — the snippet stores the token, not the resolved value, so the correct date or name is filled in automatically when the clerk inserts it.
Inserting a snippet
When editing an agenda item or minute item, click Insert Standard Content to open the snippet picker. Search by title and select the snippet to insert. The content is placed into the relevant text field immediately.
Editing and deleting snippets
To edit a snippet, find it in the Content Snippets list and click Edit.
To delete a snippet, open it for editing and use the Delete this snippet button at the bottom of the page.
Deleting a snippet does not affect agenda or minute items that have already had its content inserted — placeholders are resolved at insert time, so existing content stays put. Only future insertions are affected.
