What the adopting committee is
The adopting committee is the committee responsible for formally adopting the minutes of all other committees into the council's official record. In almost all cases this is the Full Council.
For a full explanation of what adoption means and why it is required, see Committees and the adopting committee.
Viewing the current setting
Go to Council in the left-hand menu, then click Council Info. The Minute-Adopting Committee field in the council details table shows the currently designated adopting committee.
Changing the adopting committee
- Go to Council in the left-hand menu, then click Council Info.
- Click Edit Council.
- Find the Minute-Adopting Committee field and select the new committee from the dropdown.
- Click Save.
The change takes effect immediately. From this point, the newly designated committee will be the one asked to adopt minutes of other committees.
When to change this
In normal operation the adopting committee should never need to change — it is set during your council's initial setup and reflects your council's constitutional structure.
If your council restructures and a different committee takes on the role of the sovereign body, update this setting at the same time.
