Procedure Clerk
When to edit a councillor
Edit a councillor's details when:
- Their contact details change
- They move ward or change party affiliation
- They provide or update a photo or declaration of interests
- Their public description needs updating
- Their agenda notification preference changes
Steps
-
Go to People in the left-hand menu.
-
Find the councillor in the list and click their name to open their profile page.
-
Click Edit Councillor.
-
Update the relevant fields. The fields available are the same as those on the Add Councillor form — see Adding a councillor for a full description of each field.
-
Click Save. You are returned to the councillor's profile page.
Changes to public information
Changes to fields that appear on the public portal — such as photos, descriptions, and contact details — take effect immediately after saving.
Whether a field is visible publicly depends on your council's publication settings. See Controlling what the public sees about councillors.
Changing a councillor's email address
The email address is used for login. If you change it, the councillor must use the new address to log in from that point. Make sure the councillor is aware of the change before updating it.
The new address must be unique across the CouncilPapers platform — if the address is already in use, the form will not save.
