Finance and Governance
What we do
The Finance & Governance Committee oversees the Council’s finances and governance. It makes sure spending is properly managed, policies are followed, and that the Council’s accounts are accurate and transparent.
How we work
The Committee meets at least six times a year (about every two months), with three meetings focusing on governance matters. It reviews all income and expenditure, considers budget information from other committees, and recommends the new budget and annual precept (local council tax requirement) to Full Council. It also deals with time-sensitive financial matters when necessary and reviews reports from the internal auditor. Details of financial procedures are contained in the Financial Regulations. Our Finance & Transparency pages contain our income and expenditure analysis reports.
Why it matters
Good financial management is essential for the Council to deliver services and projects effectively. This Committee ensures public money is spent wisely, in line with policy, and that residents can have confidence in the Council’s financial decisions.
Who’s involved
The Committee has 10 councillors, appointed at the Annual Council Meeting meeting. The Chairman of the Open Spaces Committee is always a member.
