Planning and Transport
What we do
The Planning & Transport Committee reviews planning applications and transport-related proposals that affect our town. It also considers highways and other transport matters, including the Highways Improvement Plan (HIP), and campaigns to Kent County Council Highways and other agencies for improvements.
How we work
The Committee usually meets every three weeks to look at planning applications, consultation documents, and other planning policy. It provides formal recommendations to Sevenoaks District Council (the planning authority), Kent County Council, and sometimes neighbouring authorities, making sure local views are represented alongside national and regional policies.
Transport issues are agenda three times a year, or as needed by the Planning Committee.
Why it matters
Planning and transport decisions shape how our town grows, how people travel, and how safe and accessible our community is. The Committee plays a key role in protecting the town’s character while also pressing for improvements that benefit residents day-to-day.
Who’s involved
The Committee has 12 councillors, with at least five representing each ward, appointed at the Annual Council Meeting.
